Presentation of Vessel Cargo Declaration to Customs
Before Cargo is Laden Aboard Vessel at Foreign Port
for Transport to the United States

Bill of Lading Preparation for Import Cargo to U.S.A.

Bills of lading covering containerized cargo must include the below information for “K” Line to prepare and submit the cargo declaration to U.S. Customs in accordance with 19 CFR 4.7a.

The bill of lading must be submitted to “K” Line by the documentation cut-off provided at the time of booking. Failure to provide this information or submit the bill of lading by the documentation cut-off may result in a delay in submission of the manifest to U.S. Customs, resulting in cargo missing the intended vessel.

  • Lowest external package unit. ( Pallets and skids package types are not acceptable)
  • Precise cargo description or HTS number and weight
  • Complete Shipper(s) details - name and address
  • Complete Consignee(s) details - name and address **

**U.S. Customs decided that To Order is acceptable in the consignee field, however, this field must contain “to order of (the actual name of the bank, shipper, etc)” and address AND the first notify field must contain the actual consignee with the U.S. name and address.

  • Container number(s)
  • International Maritime Dangerous Goods UN (United Nations) number or U.S. Department of Transportations NA (North America) number, as applicable for hazardous materials
  • Seal Number(s)

K” Line will report any changes to these requirements as information becomes available from U.S. Customs.
